Culinary Arts


Program Description

The Culinary Arts program provides the following training and experience. Students learn how to:

  • Use commercial food preparation equipment safely.

  • Prepare and serve quantity food and food products.

  • Prepare baked goods.

  • Prepare Beverages.

  • Prepare and adjust standard recipes.

  • Calculate nutritive values in food.

  • Apply sanitation precautions in commercial food preparation.

Careers in the Culinary Arts Field

  • Cooks, Institution and Cafeteria

  • Bakers, Bread and Pastry

  • Food Preparation Workers

  • Combined Food and Preparation and Serving Workers

Articulation Agreements

Students who meet all the requirements of the Tech Prep Program will receive credit and admission preference into these Post Secondary Programs:

  • Allegany College of Maryland

  • Penn College of Technology (an affiliate of Penn State)

  • Westmoreland County Community College

Certifications

Students in the Culinary Arts program are eligible for:

  • Pennsylvania Skills Certificate

  • SERVSAFE Certificate (Valid for five (5) years)
